Mental Health and Wellbeing
It is estimated that three children in every primary class have a mental health problem and many more will struggle with a particular issue such as bullying or bereavement. Please do talk to your child about how they are feeling and let them know that they are not alone. It can sometimes be hard to begin a conversation around mental health, but it will be worth it.
Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) were set up as part of the government’s response to the increasing concern about the mental health of young people. They aim to have educational and healthcare systems work together to provide high-quality wellbeing support. At Godwin Junior School, Mona Rahman is our Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) and works with us as part of the Wellbeing in Newham Schools (WINS) Team.
Educational Mental Health Practitioners work directly with schools and colleges to provide wellbeing support for the whole school community. They are part of the Mental Health Support Team for schools in Newham Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). They use evidence-based guided self-help techniques to empower families to look after and improve their own mental & emotional wellbeing.
Our Educational Mental Health Practitioner offers:
One-to-one and group parent/carer sessions
Psycho-education workshops
Staff training and wellbeing support
Signposting to local services
Mental health awareness
Listening events & focus groups
The Parent/Carer workshops focus on how families can support their child’ s wellbeing. They provide a space to learn about wellbeing, to discuss and chat with other parents/carers and to ask our Education Mental Health Practitioner any questions.
The workshops which will be delivered this year are:
5th March - What is good wellbeing? Introduction to WINS
19th March - Building positive relationships with my child
2nd April - Supporting my child with Exam Stress (Year 5/6)
23rd April - Managing my child’ s behaviour at home
7th May - Managing my child’ s anxieties at home
21st May - What is parental self care?
After the workshop has been delivered, the presentation will be uploaded above - please click on the session title to access it.
